DUKHRANA OF SAINT THOMAS



St. Thomas Apostolic Seminary celebrated her Heavenly Patron’s Dukhrana on 3 July 2018 with the most solemn Holy Qurbana.  The chief guest of the academy was Mr. Sabu de Thomas, retired professor, St Thomas College Palai. He exhorted the community the necessity of having a strong spiritual orientation in a hostile society.  The priest must be compassionate and avoid material inclinations, said Mr. Thomas.  Bro. George Pallikamyalil VC and Bro. Frank Kannanayikkal delivered their academy speeches.    

Drama



SWAPNAGAL VILKKANNUD

The fifty first Deacons drama in St. Thomas Apostolic Seminary was staged by 2018 Deacons Batch on 29 June 2018 in Cardinal Tisserant Hall.  The Iuventus Media staged the play, Swapnagal Vilkannund by Amala Communications, Kanjirappally.  The play was written by Francis T. Mavelikkara and was directed by Deacon Petson Thekkineth.   The actors beautifully staged the socio-cultural impediments faced by endosulfan victims.  It was a real-life portrayal of the victimized.  Along with seminary community, representatives from nearby cultural and religious institutions watched the performance.  The actors received great appreciation for their endeavor. 


VISIT OF THE SYNADOL COMMISSION



The Synodal Commission for the seminary and PVP arrived on 26 June 2018. His Excellency Mar Joseph Perumthottam is the chairman of the commission and His Excellencies Mar Joseph Kallarangatt and Mar Jose Puthenveettil are the members. Mar Joseph Perumthottam concelebrated the Holy Qurbana with the priests at 6.15 a.m.  The commission addressed the aspirations and anxieties of the students in every cycles of studies.  At 12.10 pm there was a common gathering in the auditorium, where the bishops shared their views. The commission also met with all the teaching and non-teaching staffs in the community.  The visit came to an end by 6.00 pm.

INAUGURATION OF JESUS FRATERNITY, YOUTH FRIENDS AND ROS GROUPS






Seminary community is blessed with multiple opportunities to follow the command of their divine master, Jesus Christ.   Jesus Fraternity, Youth Friends and ROS groups provide space for action.  The activities of Jesus Fraternity and Youth Friends were inaugurated on 9 June 2018; and the activities of ROS group on 15 June 2018.


INAGURATION OF LITERARY AND CULTURAL ACADEMY: ACADEMY ON ST. EPHREM DAY

The literary and cultural academy in the seminary was inaugurated at a meeting on 9 June 2018 in Cardinal Tisserant Hall.  The meeting started at 10.30 a.m. Fr. Thomas Karintholil welcomed the gathering .Dr. Paul Manalil, journalist and writer, inaugurated the Academy. June 9 being the feast day of St. Ephrem, Dr. Manalil spoke about the spiritual vigor and committed actions of the Saint.  He advised the student community to have a renewed love for one’s society and Church at times of troubles and worries. Bro Amal Vadekkumparambil and Bro.Albin Puthuparambil made academy speeches. Bro. Jijo Pottackal thanked the participants of the meeting.

A DAY WITH OUR DIVINE MASTER
 
 The seminary community set apart a whole day for Eucharistic Adoration on 15 June 2018. After the Holy Qurbana, the staff and students spend time in groups before the Blessed Sacrament in prayer and worship. The exposition of the Eucharist for adoration ended with a Eucharistic Procession at 7 p.m. It was indeed a day of prayer and spiritual renewal for the staff and students.

INAUGURATION OF THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2018-19



The academic year of 2018-19 began on the 2ndof June with a concelebrated Holy Qurbana at 6.30 am in the seminary chapel. The inaugural meeting held at 9 am in Cardinal Tisserant Hall was chaired by His Excellency Mar John Nellikkunnel, the bishop of the eparchy of Idukki. Rev. Dr. Joy Ainiyadan, the Rector of the seminary, welcomed the gathering. His Excellency in his inaugural address spoke about the necessity of intellectual formation and spiritual growth of the seminarians in an era of information overload.  Rev. Dr. Andrews Mekkattukunnel, the President of PaurastyaVidyāpīṭham, presented the dynamics of the academic year and welcomed Rev. Dr. Dominic Muriankavunkal, the new staff member in the Faculty of Theology. The inauguration ceremony concluded with the Schola Brevis by Rev. Dr. Thomas Vadakkel. He in his lecture highlighted “St. Paul’s Conception of Unity in the Context of Discord.”Rev. Dr. Sebastian Chalackal moderated the session.
